Blind Spot by Paula Hawkins
Blind Spot is Paula Hawkins’ latest book. Paula Hawkins is the author of The Girl on The Train and A Slow Fire Burning (both of which I loved!).
Blind Spot centers on a trio of friends: Edie, Jake, and Ryan. However, when Ryan stops by for his weekly run, someone has murdered Jake. Who did it?
The Good
This book has a price printed on the cover of 1 pound. How did I obtain this book in the United States? Good question. I purchased this book online for $3.24 from Book Depository. Book Depository is owned by Amazon and has free delivery worldwide. This is a great benefit when a book is only offered outside of the United States. Unlike when I order from Amazon, it did not have any additional products haphazardly placed in the package. My package arrived in one piece, the book was in perfect condition, and I found a handy dandy bookmark included. This is not a paid advertisement. I just like to share where you can find cheap books with free shipping.
Blind Spot is part of the Quick Reads series which features short books by best-selling authors. Blind Spot is a short book, 120 pages, and the font is large. Very large. Even though I am legally blind without contact or glasses, I could read this book with my glasses. If you forget your readers, you will be just fine with this book. In all sincerity, I think more should be done for the visually impaired, and this book is a great step.
The Bad
Obviously, I am a big Paula Hawkins fan. In fact, she is on my top 10 list of favorite authors. What I love about her books is that I never see the end coming. However, Blind Spot is a huge disappointment. 32% into Blind Spot, I had figured out who did it and why.
The Really Bad
At the very end of the book, during the big reveal, I got a strange sense of déjà vu. I have read this plot before and rather recently. It even has the same detail of the flash of the camera. If you want to know what book has an eerily similar plot, scroll below.

Mother May I by Joshilyn Jackson has almost the exact same plot. If I was Joshilyn Jackson, I would be incredibly upset. The trademark and copywrite area of law is extremely interesting. For example, there are lots of books about time travel. So where is the line? I am not an expert, but Blind Spot did not give me a good feeling.
Overall, the idea of the Quick Read format is very attractive. However, the concept is poorly executed. Blind Spot is easily the worst Paula Hawkins book that I have read, and it appears to be very similar in plot to another book.
